New universal network codes you should know |
Hello and welcome to my blog.
As a certified Naija person, you might have been used to certain network codes like *556# to check account balance for MTN and *123# for Airtel, etc.
Well, those days are now over! You don't need to memorize every single network USSD code just to check airtime/data balance, especially if you use different networks.
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has decided to make universal USSD codes for all telecom customers in Nigeria.
This is very considerate on their part as we only have to memorize a small set of network codes.
So please forget about your past network codes and familiarize yourself with the latest.
In total, there are 13 new short codes as listed below.
- Stop services — 205
- Call centre — 300
- Voice mail deposit — 301
- Voice mail retrieval — 302
- Borrow services — 303
- Check balance — 310
- Credit recharge— 311
- Data plan — 312
- Share services — 321
- Data plan balance — 323
- NIN verification and NIN-SIM linkage — 996
- DND — 2442
- Porting services — 3232
These codes will take full effect starting May 17th, 2023.
The initiative, which is in line with NCC’s regulatory modernisation programme is designed to make life much easier for telecom consumers. "It will be easier for Nigerians to memorise single codes for various services across all mobile networks they may be using, thereby improving consumer quality of experience (QoE)," NCC said in a statement.
